About slum households in India and prevalence
A slum household lacks at least one of the following conditions
1. Sufficient Living Area:
40 percent of households in India have more than three people sharing a room

2. Access to Improved Water and Sanitation
22 percent don't have access to water that is sufficient, affordable, and can be obtained without extreme effort,
and a private toilet, or a public one shared with a reasonable number of people


3. Housing Durability
40 percent don't have a permanent structure providing protection from extreme climatic conditions



4. Security of Tenure
Households are unprotected from guaranteed secure tenure status and protection against forced eviction




Most families in slums are among the poorest in urban India


Children from slums experience lower enrollment and higher dropout
Lower educational outcomes contributes to the cycle of poverty and deepening inequality
